Getting brand smart with Google alerts

Google is a wonderful source of information, whether you are just surfing the net for a holiday or using the web for business. However, it is surprising that few people use it to their full advantage.  A really important part of creating a positive and effective brand on social media involves listening, monitoring and managing your audience. But how can you do this efficiently without wasting time? I get a lot of questions from business owners who are afraid to get on social media because it is too time consuming. You have to be strategic and using tools are a part of increasing efficiency and reducing time.  Google alerts is one of these tools. So how do you use it?

If you have a Google account, then you will automatically be able to use Google Alerts. If not, it is a really simple process. Here’s a link to create a Google account if you have not already done so.

Once you have an account, sign in and follow the following steps.

Step 1: Select "More" Create a Google Account for Social Media step 1

Step 2: Google alerts. Select "Alerts"

Step 3:   Type search terms into the “search bar” that relate to your brand. For instance,  type “Your business name” there. And select how frequently you would like to receive the updates.

This is a great tool, not only for monitoring your brand, but also for to find great information industry or to stay up-to-date in your industry.
